Think About It #2 - Regardless of gender comment takes away from tweet praising Christine Sinclair

I came across a tweet praising Canadian soccer star, Christine Sinclair, that I would like to edit:

"Christine Sinclair is one of the greatest international athletes Canada has ever produced - regardless of gender. 2-0 Canada!"

This was tweeted after the Canada Women's Soccer team eliminated the host nation, Great Britain, 2-0 in a quarter-final match on August 3rd. Sinclair, Canada's team captain, scored her 140th international career goal in the win. Sinclair then went on to score her 141st, 142nd and 143rd goals in a heartbreaking and controversial 4-3 overtime loss to the United States in the semi-finals on Monday, August 6th. The world record for most international goals by any player is held by retired American soccer star Mia Hamm at 158. Both Sinclair and American Abby Wambach are tied for second-most at 143 goals. Both Sinclair and Wambach have one more game to play at the London Olympic Games.

There is no doubt that Christine Sinclair is one of the best soccer players in the world and no doubt that  she is one of the greatest international athletes Canada has ever produced as tweeted above. I have no idea why the tweeter felt it necessary to add "regardless of gender" to this tweet.  I feel that if it had been a tweet about a male athlete it would have read simply, "Insert name here is one of the greatest international athletes Canada has ever produced." And that is all it should say for Christine Sinclair too. So here is my edited tweet for number 12:

"Christine Sinclair is one of the greatest international athletes Canada has ever produced. 2-0 Canada!"

Go Christine and Team Canada! You are doing Canada proud! Good luck tomorrow!
